Definitions of the different IVF treatment methods

Various English definitions and German translations of IVF therapies with or without hormones are circulating. Below, we present a classification that we believe is easily understandable and useful for practical application and for our couples. We also use this classification in our IVF treatments.

Classic (normal) IVF

Each IVF cycle includes moderate or high-dose gonadotropin stimulation to encourage as many follicles as possible to grow.

Minimal Stimulation IVF (IVF with minimal stimulation)

Each IVF cycle involves low-dose gonadotropin stimulation or tablets such as clomiphene citrate or letrozole to stimulate the growth of a few follicles.

Natural Cycle IVF (IVF in the natural cycle)

IVF therapies without stimulation of follicle growth and while maintaining natural follicle development.

IVF-Naturelle®

This newly created term encompasses both Natural Cycle IVF and Minimal Stimulation IVF. The term IVF-Naturelle® was coined in Bern and is protected. It may only be used by centers within the competence network.
