IVF success rates of fertility treatment

The success rate depends in particular on the woman's age, the duration of the infertility and, to some extent, also on the cause of the infertility.

In an ideal group of women younger than 34 years old who have only been trying to have a child for 1-2 years, the pregnancy rate per first embryo transfer in one of our Bernese studies was 37% in a natural IVF treatment.

In a large study involving eight German and Swiss IVF centers, we determined and published the clinical pregnancy rates of various IVF protocols after evaluating several thousand IVF cycles (Magaton … von Wolff, J Assist Reprod Genet, 2025). When a fresh embryo transfer was performed, the pregnancy rate was 25% for natural cycle IVF treatments, up to 32% for minimally stimulated IVF protocols, and 35% for conventional IVF. However, the reality is more complex: the probability of a successful transfer varies depending on the treatment, as do the effort and costs involved. Therefore, you should discuss the success rates of the treatments with your fertility clinic.
